Tips For Performance Issues In Data Architect

Description

When working with large and/or complex data models, ER/Studio Data Architect users may experience performance issues. These issues can lead to sluggishness, delays in response times, crashing of the tool, etc..

  • Slow response times when performing actions such as opening or saving models.
  • Lag or freezing when navigating through large data models.
  • High memory or CPU usage.

Steps to Improve This

  1. Update to the latest version: Ensure Data Architect is updated to the latest version available, as updates often include performance improvements and bug fixes.
  2. Set priority to High: Increase the priority for Data Architect in the Task Manager to High by right clicking on the process in the Details tab.Task Manager - priority status
  3. Optimize Model Size: Streamline data models by removing unnecessary objects, consolidating entities, and simplifying relationships. If you are going to use multiple Sub-model, then consider splitting them into multiple diagrams.
  4. Limit number of open models: Keep the number of simultaneously open models to a minimum to conserve system resources.
  5. Use circular layout: Make sure to use the circular layout when reversing a large model. Avoid using the hierarchical layout when considering performance in Big Models.
  6. Disable shadows: Go to Tools > Options > Display and disable this option.
