Socket Connection Error

Description

You get a Socket Connection Error when trying to make the connection with the Repository. It should like this:

Socket Connection Error – Please make sure the Repository Communication Server is running on your server machine.

The possible causes for these issues are:

  • Wrong ports used to communicate with the repository.
  • Ports not being open
  • Ports being blocked by a firewall or being changed by a Proxy in the environment

Steps to Fix This

For this Socket Connection error message please check the following:

  1. In Data Architect please select menu “Repository > Options” and ensure that “Server Machine” is the host name of the machine that the Repository application server is installed on. If this fails, please try to enter the fully qualified domain name (<host name>.<domain>) or the IP address of the server.
  2. Please make sure that from your client machine you can ping the host name of the machine that the repository application server is installed on. Send me a screenshot showing the results of the ping command to the server.
  3. Please make sure that ports 54332 and 54333 are not behind a firewall and are available on the machine that the repository application server is installed on.
