Data Architect Closes While Opening/Creating A Diagram

Description

Every time you try to open or create a new diagram, Data Architect suddenly closes with no notification or error shown.

Symptoms

• You are unable to open diagrams
• You are unable to create new diagrams

Root Cause 

This is a common issue that most of the time affects end users lacking certain privileges on their Windows user, or environments with a special configuration that blocks the product unintentionally.

Steps to Fix This

1. Ask the IT team to grant privileges to write/read on the Data Architect installation folder.
2. Go to Tools > Options > Directories and fetch those folder paths.
3. Make sure those folders are valid and point to a path on the disk.
4. Ask the IT team to grant privileges to write/read on all the folders.
5. Make sure all of those are local and not network shared folders.
6. Check no third-party tool is blocking the software or the mentioned folders.
7. Open the application using Run as Admin.
8. Reinstall the product using Run as Admin.

Additional Notes

We have seen some appearances after installing database specific drivers or making changes to the environment. It could cause this issue to start appearing even when the tool was working fine before. In this scenario, you will need to roll back any recent changes you’ve made and work from there.
