Having issues with the C++ Libraries during installation? This is how you fix it

Summary

The user is not able to complete the installation of ER/Studio Data Architect/Team Server and is getting an error that looks like:

“This application requires Microsoft Visual Studio 2022 (x64/x86, version 14.34 at a minimum). Please install the redistributable, then run this installer again. For more information, see: https://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?linkid=2219560.”

Root Cause

The cause of this error is that the installer is trying to install a version of the Microsoft Visual C++ redistributable (vc_redist), but a more recent version exists on the machine. Our installers are tries to resolve this discrepancy but it errors out.

Steps to Fix This

The current workaround we have available is to uninstall the Microsoft Visual C++ redistributable on the machine first, then install ER/Studio Data Architect.

Once Data Architect is installed successfully, the latest Microsoft Visual C++ redistributable can be re-installed. Those downloads can be found here:

https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/cpp/windows/latest-supported-vc-redist?view=msvc-170

There are two redistributables, one for x86 and one for x64. Both should be uninstalled before the ER/Studio installation and both should be reinstalled from the link above.

Additional Notes

We have enhancements in our roadmap to make the installer smarter and properly work around the installation of the C++ Redistributable libraries, so this will not be an issue in the near future.
